Palmerola International Airport (XPL)

International flights to Honduras now land at a newly constructed airport known as both the Palmerola International Airport and the Comayagua International Airport. Inaugurated in October 2021, it is now the new civil and commercial international airport for Honduras. When searching for international flights to Honduras on most airline and aggregate websites, use the airport code “XPL” rather than “Tegucigalpa” to locate available flights.

Please note that CADF sessions will take place over three full days during October 26-28, but that additional networking opportunities and site visits may occur on October 25 and on October 29. We recommend our international guests fly in on Tuesday, October 25 and fly out Saturday, October 29.

Free Shuttle

To help attendees navigate the new airport for international arrivals, SIF is providing free shuttle transportation. Prior to CADF, the shuttle will run from the Palmerola International Airport in Comayagua to the Clarion Hotel Real in Tegucigalpa on Tuesday, October 25. Following CADF, the shuttle will from the Clarion Hotel to the Palmerola International Airport in Tegucigapla on Saturday, October 29.

Free transportation will depart the Palmerola International Airport directly to the Clarion Hotel on Tuesday, October 25 at the following times:

12:00pm
12:45pm
1:30pm
2:30pm
11:15pm

Upon exiting customs and baggage claim, please look for the CADF 2022 sign and an attendant of Honduras Traveling will guide you to the bus or van. Note that while we will do our best to maintain the above schedule, departure times may change slightly due to flight delays. Please anticipate the trip taking between 60-90 minutes depending on traffic.

Check this page soon or visit the CADF staff at the registration table for information on departure times on Saturday, October 29. Booking transportation between the airport and hotel is not coordinated via SIF and is available only to registered CADF 2022 attendees.

For attendees that prefer to arrange their own ground transportation, we recommend booking transportation via the Clarion Hotel Real or through a reputable taxi service at the airport. Attendees can expect to pay between 1,500-1,750 Honduran Lempiras ($60-72 USD) for a taxi between the airport and hotel.

Parking:

Free parking will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional parking (if available) will be offered for a small fee of 15 Honduran Lempiras ($0.60 USD) per day.

Speaker Costs

To ensure the sustainability of CADF, speakers are expected to cover their own expenses. Speakers will receive a 20% discount off of the registration fee, totaling $460.

Seattle International Foundation (SIF) offers limited complimentary tickets to participants that would otherwise not be able to cover their costs to participate in CADF. If you are seeking a complimentary ticket to attend CADF, please submit this form.

Please note that SIF is unable to cover traveling and lodging expenses associated with participating in CADF. Priority may be given to participants accepted to speak in a session.

Networking App

Connecting with fellow attendees is an important and valuable part of the #CADF2022 experience.

This year, all attendees have access to a free networking app called Whova, where you can view the agenda, post to a community message board and reach out directly to other participants.

Download Whova on the App Store or on Google Play, and use the code sent following registration to access the “2022 Central America Donors Forum” event.

CADF 2022 held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras

What can I visit in Tegucigalpa?

In addition to a growing culinary scene, Tegucigalpa and its surroundings offer unmissable historic and natural attractions. Below are a few recommendations for guests planning a short stay in the capital of Honduras.

St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral. One of Tegucigalpa’s most recognizable icons, this cathedral was constructed in 1782 and declared a national monument in 1967. Located in the Historic Center, it houses a stunning collection of religious artwork.

Museum of National Identity. Only a 5 minute walk from the cathedral, one can find this nonprofit museum celebrating the grand history of the Honduran people, past and present. An art gallery and souvenir shop are located inside. Cost: $5 USD.

Basilica of Our Lady of Suyapa. Built in 1954, this basilica is the largest building of the Catholic Church in Honduras, and is the main place of veneration for the Virgin of Suyapa, the Patroness of Honduras.

Outside the city

El Cristo de El Picacho (“The Christ of The Peak”). This monument stands nearly 100 ft. tall on the hillside of El Picacho in the far north of Tegucigalpa. It includes two terraces and a café offering a splendid panoramic view of Tegucigalpa during the day and at night. 8:00am – 9:00pm. Cost: $1 USD. 30-40 minutes from Tegucigalpa

Santa Lucía. This small town in the mountains boasts a well-preserved historic center, a lake where you can rent and row boats, cafés, restaurants and a lookout point. 30 minutes from Tegucigalpa.

Valle de Ángeles. This old mining town features wood, leather and clay crafts shops, a wide variety of cuisine, colonial architecture and a pleasant climate. 45-60 minutes from Tegucigalpa

La Tigra National Park. This cloud forest is inhabited by more than 170 species of birds. La Tigra includes 7 trails, guided services, an eco-museum and an eco-hotel. Cost for foreigners: $10 USD. Whatsapp: +504 3323-2982. 45-60 minutes from Tegucigalpa. It is recommended to arrive in a 4×4 vehicle.
