Journalists throughout the region find themselves in a position where they are forced to flee their home countries out of fear for their safety. Authoritarianism, organized crime and violence have intensified in recent years, making the work of journalists and independent media even more difficult. Examining the situation of Nicaraguan media in exile, this session will explore the challenges that journalists face and the ways in which they have been forced to adapt their work in order to continue providing information to the public. Despite the difficulties of working from exile, these journalists will highlight the opportunities and tools they have utilized to help them continue producing high-impact investigative journalism.
