This session will begin with a brief introduction of the sociopolitical milestones in Honduras that place in context the women’s and feminist movements. Such movements throughout the region are demanding sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) while experiencing both advances and setbacks. Speakers will analyze SRHR through a holistic perspective, including as a pillar of women’s empowerment and equity building. These experts will elaborate on emergency contraceptive pills and abortion–two crucial yet denied rights. Panelists will also discuss the historical struggles of the women’s movement around SRHR, particularly in the context of the new Honduran government, and highlight newly formed pacts, alliances and synergies.
