The day after CADF 2024, attendees will be able to visit the Artisanal Market in Guatemala City to meet textile, coffee and chocolate cooperatives working hand-in-hand with impoverished and marginalized communities in Guatemala. These cooperatives empower young people, women, indigenous people and Afro-descendants by creating jobs with fair wages, while discouraging irregular migration and preserving Guatemalan, Mayan, Garifuna and Xinca cultures. As attendees sip Guatemalan coffee, nibble on chocolate and wander through the market, visitors will hear about the cooperatives’ efforts to protect the environment and natural resources, as well as learn about the machines used by at-risk youth to make textiles.
