The World Health Organization states every human being has the fundamental right to “the highest attainable standard of health” and UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 aims to ensure universal healthcare for all by 2030, yet half of the world’s population still lack access to essential health services. In Central America, governments have made significant progress over the last few decades to increase access to public health services. Despite these commitments, it remains challenging to ensure these services are responsive, inclusive and accessible to all, especially the most vulnerable. These challenges were only exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
