Well-functioning, independent unions and worker organizations are essential for healthy, inclusive democracies. They empower workers to have a collective voice in the policies that affect their lives and society. Authentic worker voice uplifts the voices of marginalized groups, including women, indigenous, Afro-descendent and informal workers. Their collective strength enables them to advocate for better terms and conditions of work with employers and government while also addressing systemic forms of economic and political discrimination. This session will explore how promoting worker organizing and worker voice contributes to reducing labor exploitation and advancing democracy and social inclusion at all levels.
