Arena Negra is the first narrative feature film set on the Pacific coast of Guatemala, a region defined by its fishing communities, vulnerable mangroves, and endangered sea turtles. Co-produced by Guatemala and Mexico and filmed with local residents, the movie explores the transmission of ancestral knowledge, the identity of coastal youth, and the bond between communities and nature. The visit includes an exclusive screening of a 30-minute cut, followed by a dialogue with director Axel Dettoni, producer Lucía Morán, and Sonia Solís from the Luis von Ahn Foundation.

This conversation will address the role that cinematic storytelling can play within the regional change agenda, along with the importance of film as a tool for raising the visibility of these regions, preserving cultural and natural heritage, and uplifting communities.
