Universities fulfill the mission of creating knowledge, documenting social phenomena, building indicators, recording history and promoting evidence-based public policies. They also have a social action mission. Organizations are nourished by the knowledge produced in academia about their struggles and, in turn, academia is nourished by organizations for their closeness to on-the-ground realities and efforts to defend equality and social justice, despite the challenge of growing authoritarianism emerging in the region. As such, this discussion is essential to reinforce collaboration and coordination between both actors.
